Avoid these pitfalls from lack of confidence

Oct 13, 2020

Do you know what lack of confidence is costing you?  Sometimes it is right in your face and sometimes it can be a little less recognizable.

It can seem harmless in some cases and debilitating in others.

Avoiding the pitfalls can both reflect and build confidence.

And, knowing when you are in one is the first step to pulling yourself out.

Confidence is a choice you can make.

But what I want you to know first and foremost is that confidence is a choice. Believe me, I know that it can feel like that is not true.

For many of us, we feel we need to have, be or do something (or many things) in order to feel confident.

It could be to have more money.

Be skinnier.

Do more work.

But the mind bendy thing about it is that confidence is not only a choice, it is an action that creates momentum leading to more and more confidence.

In other words, if you choose confidence first, the other things can fall into place... and will.

“I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence but it comes from within. It is there all the time.” – Anna Freud

Nothing from the outside is needed for you to realize your strength and ability to choose confidence.

All you need is right inside of you, but it is hard for us to access sometimes.  This is a normal human trait- to think confidence is out of reach or that something needs to happen to feel confident.

It turns out that our thoughts, which we can also choose, drive our feelings.  So, if you want to feel more confident, what do you have to think?

I can assure you, that it is NOT, “I am lazy” or “I can’t do this” or “I don’t deserve that…”

In fact, thinking like that is what often leads to falling into one of the pitfalls of lack of confidence, which include:

  • Overgiving
  • Underearning
  • Overworking
  • Feeling depleted
  • Missed opportunities
  • Weight gain
  • One sided relationships
  • Always running out of time
  • Taking things personally
  • Feeling like things are happening to you

These pitfalls can keep you from taking action.  And when you don't take action, you don't move forward, you don't build confidence.

It becomes a vicious loop or cycle of thoughts that don't serve which create actions (or in most cases inactions) that don' t get us to our desired results .

For instance, if you're thinking 'I will never be able to do this,' guess what?  You won't be able to.  You'll feel discouraged and quit on yourself...again.  Stay stuck.

BUT, if you're thinking 'I am going to figure this out no matter what,' you'll feel determined and keep trying until you get there.

Remember, you cannot punish your way to your results.

You can, however, love your way there.

I promise that if you choose confidence now and loving empowering thoughts, you will begin to feel more and more confident.  You will start taking action away from the pitfalls.  You will move toward your intended positive results.

“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement. “– Golda Meir
